The car in the photo is a 1956 Desoto, the 1955s had 6V electrics that would not run the player. The picture is one of three promotional shots I have from RCA the company that made the option and the records that went on them for Chrysler Corporation. The records were 16 2/3RPM and were the size of a 45RPM record. I have collected Highway HI FI units and records for over 20 years and have had over 300 records and at one point had the only known collection with all 42 different titles available to the public and three dealership demo records along with two service department records The set of 42 with all the extra materials and an NOS player I sold for $8K to a private collector and I had another NOS player with the first 36 records that Sold to someone that worked at Chrysler Historical and they used to be on display there. I would buy out collections of records from people just to get one record to fill a hole in my collection. When I decided to sell my collection I sent an email to Jay giving him first shot but never received a reply. He has a 1956 Imperial with a player installed. The record player was to be installed in my 1957 Desoto Adventurer convertible (yes the one with a dual quad hemi) but I sold the car and it is now being restored in Italy.

If you want more information on the players and a full list of the record titles go to my website http://www.roadkillontheweb.com

Very appropriate. Its Seafair in Seattle this weekend. Those old piston engined boat really roared. If you were a kid with a bike there was a pretty good chance you were puling a little wood hydro behind it on a piece of string racing your buddies up and down the street. Bill Muncy in one of the shots, one of the best to drive these beasts.
Thanks for posting Lowkat, brings back some fond memories.
