That was back when they did not have to have real facts backing the poster. They could pretty much make up whatever they wanted.

Apparently it's for real-did some quick research online:

In December 1953, Nash held a series of test for the Metropolitan including a 24-hour endurance and speed tests. One Metro completed 1,467 miles (2,361 km) in 24 hours at 61 mph (98 km/h). Another averaged 41.57 mpg at 35 mpg for 24 hours

    That was from this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raleigh_Speedway

Yep, Lombardo's boat. Here's a later pic of
the same boat when it was re-named 'Tempo
    VI
    " and used a war-surplus Allison V12 aircraft
engine. The pic you posted was probably taken
sometime circa 1946-'47, shortly after Lombardo
purchased the boat and it still had it's original
    pre-WWII Miller V16 race engine

And here's the same boat again - circa
    1939-'40 - pre-Lombardo - when the
boat was named "My Sin" and owned
by its original owner, Zalmon Simmons,
    of Simmons Mattress Company fame.
The C.O.E. Ford hauler the boat is
sitting on seems to be the same one
as in the circa '46-47 Lombardo pic.
