The B-24 had hydralically-powered flight controls, linked to a hydralic fluid tank at the top of the fuselage aft of the wings. A hit on the tank usually doomed the plane as it easily caught fire, as seen in this tragic photo....

C-47 Dakota towing off a glider at the Laurinburg-Maxton Airbase in North Carolina. Yes the same place that the East Coast Timing Association used to hold its events.

Airborne soldiers and a Jeep exit a CG-4A glider. Again at Maxton.

This is an informal photograph of Amelia Earhart, 1897-1937. She is seated between two women on a parade float in Atchison, Kansas. The two women may be Barbara and Lorraine Hellener, daughters of the City Manager, Earl Hellener. Also visible are the float's driver, spectators, and parked automobiles along the city street. A native of Atchison, Earhart spoke at Memorial Hall to a crowd of 3,500 people during her visit. The parade was June 7, 1935.

My father "John" and three uncles. A true life band of brothers. All four spent 20+ years each in the service. They are all gone now.

This is the Jicarilla ATF-104. My grandmother was asked to sponsor it in honor of her son's service records.

It'd be a bit tricky driving that gokart with both legs on one side of the wheel. The young fella in the background doesn't seem too distracted by the competition. Maybe next year...
