Don't know much about this.

I'm sure it's a setup for producer gas. A way to create combustible fuel to run the internal combustion engine using wood as fuel.

Nope. The first time I saw it posted on this thread (8.17.2012,post 51004) it had the following information.
"Kysor Heater Cooking Pot
This exhaust heat exchanger, designed by Walter Kysor, is seen here on his 1926 Oldsmobile. The caption reads, Walter would place a beef roast, vegetables, potatoes, etc. in the pot with some water and then with friends and customers drive to places along the Manistee River . . . .and set up a folding table and dish out the food which by that time had been amply cooked."

Hate to tell you Don , but they even made a '40 roadster



here's a '39 with the top down


Although they had fixed windscreens , they didn't have wind up windows and were refered to here as roadsters. Just another unique Aussie body style.

 

System to recover unspent fuel, cook breakfast, bake bread, pressure cook a brisket and keep the fuel tank pressurized? Gary

 

This was one of the coolest cars getting around in the 80s, this and John Cowling's heavily channelled 32 Roadster! I don't have a pic of Johns car but it would fit right in here.

I agree with you Doc, that is a cool looking 40 but my understanding is that there were ZERO 40 Fords (or anything else) made in Australia - the country was at war, along with the rest of the British Empire / Commonwealth.
There wasn't so much call for roadsters with or without roll-up windows - the country was making weapons and other war materiel.
Doc, have you posted a pic of your old car on here? You are the Doc Watson who had a beautiful red 35 Roadster in Melbourne about 30 - 35 years ago, aren't you?

 

Oh, by the way, we call these panel vans in Australia - same thing as a sedan delivery, just a different name. (Not to be confused with a panel truck - that's 'yours')

This is an interesting photo from a much earlier page. The Ticonderoga was being moved overland from Lake Champlain to the museum at Shelburne, Vermont, where it now sits on dry land. They also dismantled a lighthouse from a Lake Champlain island and reconstructed it at the museum to keep the boat company. To move the boat, they laid tracks across the countryside, picking up the track behind and laying down in front, getting temporary leases on the farmland as they went. A huge undertaking, but this is a very special museum...

Perhaps it would have be prudent to have qualified that statement IE: As far as you knew or possibly 'In the United States'. That way you wouldn't have been wrong.

I would suggest that you brush up on your Pontiacs because that IS a 1956. I've owned both & the difference is very obvious to anyone who actually knows them.

 

I think the red 35 roadster may have been Russell Humphries car ,,not sure if he was a 'Doc' or not,,,,,,

 

OK,---Maybe in Down under---But never in the USA. The definition of a "Roadster" is:
1. Removable windshield
2. No roll up windows
3. Last USA roadster produced by FOMOCO was in 1937.

Does that clear it up??
