As far as I recall, it was Tyrrell, not Lotus that had the 6 wheeler.

Some details from the book Road Racing Specials, published by Vintage Motorsports Mag in 2003. The Studebaker Excalibur Hawk coupe was designed by Brooks Stevens, and had tube chassis by Bob Webb. It was tested in Aug 1963 at Elkhart Lake where it had brake overheating and fuel starvation problems. It was entered the following month in the Road America 500 but it still had those same two problems, then broke a track bar bolt, and was retired after 100 miles. Supercharged Stude R2 motor like in the Avanti. At the time the book was printed, the car had been restored by Mr. Bob Shaw and even raced a few times. Gary

I'd copy the article but the book is too big and the gutter prevents a good scan. I think the Avanti looked a lot better, eh? So did the folks running Studebaker. Ha. Gary

Thanks again swi66, re. #90903; second and last shots - Thomas McAvoy sent to record Grace Kelly's wedding for Life, managed to cover not just a Grand Prix but apparently visited Maranello earlier, and caught the conversion of the D50 Lancias into Ferraris ... and T-head, isn't that a Benz?

Only 26 were built, but they got into the right hands-including those of Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra.
