Quite a Police force fleet.Looks like the first two Harleys must be the Chief and his assistants, chrome package and chrome rims.It also looks like the fleet is BelAirs, all V-8s and the last two are 4 dr Hardtops! We don't need no stinkin 150s around here!

My Dad was in charge of ordering the police cars every year. This was in Arcadia, California, where I grew up and dad was a policeman.
The Santa Anita Race Track created lots of revenue for the City, so they got new cars every year...the following year he ordered Fords...

that's dad on the right. and the race track in the background...

this Ford was the city's first radar unit. No transistors..all tubes, so the entire back of the station wagon WAS the radar unit...the thing weighed about 150 pounds

I love this thread just the way it is. A bit of this and a bit of that; but always back to cars. Got to liking the fedoras in some of the old pics so much I bought a 60 year old one on the Bay. Have some old pics myself but never have figured out how to post them.

Nice shots of the Drag trucks.I knew here in Dearborn,Michigan that Stuart Wilson Ford ran a truck but i didn't realize this is the same truck. Thanks for including the extra info.Dearborn Steel Tubing was only a 1/2 mile West of Stuart Wilson so it would make sense that they would or could get the truck first.

...the blast blew the tail gunner,Roy Urich, out of the plane. The rest of the crew learned later that Urich survived unhurt. Years later, other crews reported seeing him flying through the formation still sitting on the tail gunner's bicycle seat and holding the handles to his twin .50's.(rudeerude)"

This was from a grander time when people (not lawyers or a government) actually assumed their own personal responsibility...If you got hurt from your own negligence, YOU were responsible for being the dumbshit and the medical bills, not them..

In this picture it looks like he was a legend in street racing...I'm just saying.

  17. I think he WAS a big-time street racer who found religion and worked to get people OFF the streets. see the link below. I saw his rig at Da' Grove, too. I'd be surprised if that car runs at all. The kid with us took some pics. I'll have to get him to send me some. By the way; I thought I saw "in memory of Big Willie" painted on it on it somewhere.

Sorry a photo from the 200's... I wonder the center building with the cross is the same one that's now part of Childrens Mercy annex. Cool photo!

A cigarette in a childs face pretty much spoils it for me...And I'm a former smoker.

What was once old is new again. The 3-d craze happened once before.

Jimi: Of course, you have a point. But it's a retroactive point. The pic was taken in the mid-'50s, and it reflects behavior pretty typical in the '50s. Doctors used to shill for tobacco companies, and ads routinely implied cigarettes were actually healthful. Yike! But we can't jump into the Way-back Machine and slap the fag out of the guy's mouth. It's an historical photo. We can and should learn from history, not repeat it. At least, times HAVE CHANGED, right?
