Nice fire escape. I guess building codes were a little different back then.

I hope whatever is supporting that car was engineered with more thought than the scaffold that guy's on.

In 1912, three friends set out from Weatherford, Texas on a winding 6,500 mile road trip to San Francisco and back in a Stoddard-Dayton Saybrook 48 horsepower car. Despite encountering many mishaps along the way, including poor and non-existent roads, mechanical malfunctions, and having to be pulled by a team of horses through 30 miles of sand to Yuma, Arizona, the three completed the adventure with quite a story to tell. Shown here are the three travelers, Sam White and Barney Holland of Weatherford and Lem Scarbrough of Austin, standing next to the car owned by White that was taken on the trip. The women pictured and location are unknown. From the Bowie/Holland Collection

Site of a bomb blast that originated near a mailbox in rural Denton County in August, 1951. The bomb killed notorious Dallas gambler and gangster Herbert "The Cat" Noble who, according to legend, had survived 11 previous attempts on his life. Some playing cards can be seen at the feet of the investigating officers (l. to r.), Texas Ranger Lewis C. Rigler (Gainesville), Denton County Sheriff "Ones" Hodges and his chief deputy E.D. Davis, and Deputy Roy C. Baker (Denton).

  23. What's interesting here is the light colored car behind the tree on the left, still up on the bank. It appears they cut the back half of the body off a Packard (maybe a '41-'47?) and put a pickup bed on it. Or it's a Stude pickup and I'm seeing things, but it looks too long and low to be a 41-48 Stude pickup.

Good catch - looks like a '42 Clipper sedan with the bed from a Dodge army truck.
