These Big Boy locomotives were run on the Union Pacific Railroad, mostly through Nebraska and Wyoming. They ran through many a blizzard!

No politics, just an observation of the obvious. Just commenting on pics in the thread. (which already has plenty of content we would consider off topic, btw) But we do let a lot in that thread slide because so many people seem to enjoy it. I would be happier if only pics were posted in this thread, instead of comments by people that never post any pics.

 

At least the comments are on topic, not negative name calling.

Now, back to the thread. I love the thirties and the art deco era and the great art it inspired. One of my favorites is the English ad for the new 1932 Ford.

DREAM! Drive yer OWN vehicle, even if only off-road? WOW!

I'm with you, VintageHotrods. The illustrators' genius
of the past popular press provides MANY an example
of work that's like food for the eyes! Like good music,
like breathing fresh air, you name your own parallel.

Not art deco but nostalgically compelling, here's period
artwork for the cover of the 1925 Rand-McNally Auto Road
Atlas, THANKS to the great site and resource, American-
Automobiles.com. Starting in 1856, William Rand created
the forerunner of the famous Atlas. And now, the company
is about to celebrate its 156th year of publishing maps and
atlases. BTW, according to the aforementioned site, it was
Rand-McNally which, in the '20s, debuted the highway num-
bering system that became the model for the system used
across the U.S. today.

items strongly mentioned the for-U.S.-export angle,
e.g.). In both cases, only one page was shown,
and neither mentioned the car name nor the
company name, just Tjaarda's. So, ANYBODY got
solid info on the car? What was it? Did it ever get
off the ol' drawing board???
