I am not sure about the '58 wagon, but on the '59 & '60 Lark two door wagons you could get the side windows blanked out. I think they simply covered the glass with solid panels.

 

This rail shipment of seven new automobiles was delivered to the Burns Ford Garage about 1915. Burns Ford is the second oldest Ford dealership on the West Coast and has been in operation under the same name longer than any other business in Burns, Oregon, according to the Claire McGill Luce Western History Room.

The trans was in the rear in those, driveshaft was 5/8 diameter and was held bowed down for less floor hump..Some wheres around 65 a local kid used to cruise M'Dee's with one all jacked up in the rear, looked funny with the tires all cambered out and you could see the torque converter spinning..Wasn't around long, probably crashed it..

 

I was very shocked to see one driving by me, here in the Vancouver area about 10 years ago! Nover dreamed I'd ever see one in person.

That was a Corvair transaxle with a basically rubber band driveshaft. Even the '63 with a 326 used it.

 

About 6 years ago, I seen a Oscar Meyer Weiner-mobile trucking down the Interstate I-25...going from Denver to Colorado Springs crammed with traffic....Zipping along at about 75 mph....I think my whole family had our noses up against the car windows pointing. Kind of cool to see...never seen another one!....we wore out the hot-dog song-ditty all the way home!

 

My understanding, from an article in one of the magazines that came out in the fall of 1960 (or so), is that if you support the 5/8" shaft at the extreme ends and measure the droop from gravity, you get the bow shape that the Pontiac engineers designed-in.
