100 Years ago.

 

Love these weird old trucks. There was a plumber in Woodburn who drove one of these. Kept his long pieces of pipe in the two storage compartments just above the tail lights. The early ones had wooden bumpers.

What a great photograph, really like the posing of the family and how it mimics Rushmore.

 

We were all thinkin we were soooooooooo coooool!! We figured the chicks would just love us .................. sadly, many of us were wrong.

Actually, this is the "Colorado Expressway" connecting East Colorado Blvd at Orange Grove to Eagle Vista Drive in Eagle Rock. It later was used as part of the extension for the 134 fwy. The Hollywood Fwy is about 10 miles east of this running north and south. But this is a damn cool picture, never seen it and I worked in the PR office of the city of Pasadena!

 

On the In progress Mt Rushmore pic, it looks like there was a 5th face on the left which didn't make the final cut.

Edit: I found something out about it:

Q: How come Abraham Lincoln is so far away from the other three presidents? L.R.

A: At first, Gutzon Borglum planned to carve the faces in the following order: Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, and Abraham Lincoln. (George Washington would be in the middle.) But when the workers were halfway through carving Thomas Jefferson, they realized that the rock was weak.

So, Borglum and the workers blasted Jefferson off the mountain and began to carve him on the other side of Washington. Because of this, Borglum had to figure out a new place to put Lincoln. He decided to carve Lincoln on the end where the rock would be stable.
