This is Air Force One at Long Beach, CA when President Johnson was there to make a speech.

Later I realized this was the same plane that took JFK to and from Dallas.

MrFire, pretty awesome, even observed from a distance. Arguably
the best tank of the war. Heavily armored, diesel powered and with
a deadly Krupp 88-mm that was the bane of allied tankers.

If Hilter had been even half as good as the generals and equipment
at his command, half the world (or more) might be speaking German
now! Perhaps, his biggest mistake was in delaying committing the
Panzers to the siege of Stalingrad (old St. Petersburg) sooner. It
turned out to be the biggest tank battle in world history, and the
Germans left half their invading force, dead, behind and licked their
wounds all the way back to Germany. Hitler's first major defeat,
and the German people and military leadership realized the war
would be DOWN-hill from that point on! The Third Reich, which was
to last a thousand years, instead lasted less than 20.

Saddles") standing behind ol' TR? Suppose he's gonna
present teddy with "a Laurel, and Hardy handshake" ???

I noticed a turnbuckle and hook at the rear of the rack which would support some type of dyno or motorized test unit. The man at the rear appears to have a lever to engage or stop the rig.The unit on the left appears to be a pump for lube? Perhaps some type of lube flushing?

Mazooma-This is actually a shot from an earlier, before Spanky, silent Our Gang comedy i believe called "One Wild Ride".Here's a shot with some of the Gang that are in the car.Your cool pic is not in the Our Gang book i have.A reworked talking version was made called "Freewheeling" which did have a young Spanky featured. They both featured real horse or donkey power though.I believe Mickey is the driver as he was the lead Gang member at the time.

A fiery horse with the speed of light, a cloud of dust and a hearty "Hi Yo Silver!" The Lone Ranger. "Hi Yo Silver, away!" With his faithful Indian companion Tonto, the daring and resourceful masked rider of the plains, led the fight for law and order in the early west. Return with us now to those thrilling days of yesteryear. The Lone Ranger rides again!

"I believe that to have a friend,
    a man must be one.

That all men are created equal
and that everyone has within himself
the power to make this a better world.

That God put the firewood there
    but that every man
must gather and light it himself.

    In being prepared
    physically, mentally, and morally
    to fight when necessary
    for that which is right.

That a man should make the most
    of what equipment he has.

    That 'This government,
of the people, by the people
    and for the people'
    shall live always.

    That men should live by
the rule of what is best
    for the greatest number.

    That sooner or later...
    somewhere...somehow...
we must settle with the world
and make payment for what we have taken.

That all things change but truth, and that truth alone, lives on forever. In my Creator, my country, my fellow man."

It has been a while since I looked at this photo enlarged so I went back to it and made these enlargements. The photo is captioned Havoline Filling Station Washington D.C. 1924.

I have the feeling that this was a test-promo device for Texaco. It could also have been used to help garages sell ring and valve jobs.

The device in the front left is clearly marked.... Gasometer, Measures Leakage Past Pistons or what is also called blow-by past the rings. It may have been hooked up to the crankcase breather so that it could read the pressure or flow.

A device like this has to have something to put a load on the driven axle and drums that the test car runs. It appears the lever in the operators hand maybe engages some type of hydraulic load device as there in piping near it.

The only other piece of equipment visible appears to be possibly a speedometer or tach driven by a cable presumably off of the driven axle. It hangs from a chart or sign that may have another gauge at the top??

The turnbuckle under the car appears to be used to hold and load the car and tires down on the drums that they turn.

Here's Jackie Gleason on the final line in factory #62. Jackie takes special pride in this particular Buick. "I should." he declared. "I nursed it along from bare frame to the finished product"
Jackie Gleason tightens the wheel on a 1955 Buick. By 1955, Mr. Gleason, who liked to call himself ''the Great One,'' was one of television's biggest stars, and it was reported at the time that the contract for the Honeymooners, which was sponsored by the Buick division of General Motors, called for him to be paid $11 million if the weekly half-hour shows ran for three years. It was said to be the biggest deal in television history.

Hey, as Vintage Hotrods said, guys on the HAMB are great for sharing their knowledge -- about anything mechanical! To that end, I THANK everybody for correcting my errant details on the Tiger tank: ran on gas, not diesel. I read just yesterday that the battel for Stalin was the largest tank engagement in history. But I'll defer, if Kursk is the correct answer, folks. I stand corrected. THANKS again!!!
