I believe it was a ex-Granatelli Stude, owned and driven by Dick Passwater in USAC 1964. 9-5-f.JPG

  8. Cool, thanks!

See 'em stock, see 'em tricked out for the salts and drag racing - not so much on American bendy tracks.

    (Carrera Panamericana notwithstanding)

  9. So far found only one tiny color image of that Stude. Still, a fine looking car - has a great stance.

  10. So, now I have another question; Is the ass-end of that car shortened? Because it has a stubbier look to me.

Reason was----At the end of the original runway, there was a chain link fence & gas station. As planes grew larger & needed more room for take offs & landings, plus the idea of making sea plane access at oceans edge further down, the old Sepulveda went underground for a better & safer approach.

I think it looks "stubbier" because it is jacked up a bit over the rear tires. The squarish GT roof also makes the rear shorter than say the '53-'55 coupes. The rear fenders are identical '53 through '64 (not sedans) except for the holes for the trim. This is an interesting group of pictures. I don't think I have ever seen a GT set up as stock car. Love it.

Maybe the rear wheel openings are enlarged, so it's tricking the eye?

One more from Pioneer. Anyone from the Whittier area recognize that mild custom Hudson? Couldn't have been many around there in the mid-'60s:

  23. Yup. On closer examination, I can see the wheel house trim comes short of the rocker panel brightwork, meaning they cut the opening higher and reattached.
And yes, that new roof line carries the cabin further back to almost over the rear wheel opening, changing the whole characteristic of the car.

Anyhoo, I like it very much - looks tough as brass knuckles. Baaaaad to the bone!

No meaning to accuse you for "violation" as I asked. Actually I like to build scale models as well. The model in your post is incredibly well done. Pleasure to look at. Even if off topic here, but I'd like to learn the scale and who did it.
