  1. No they were a couple of brothers from Western Transvaal and I don't think they could even drive.

    You got to be some kind of special to be allowed to hang your shingle right over the center of the main boulevard.

    Those store names all have classic ring to them: "Simonds", "Munnell & Sherrill"...

  14. Simonds and Munnell & Sherrill are still in existence, although Munnell & Sherrill (tools and cutters) are no longer locally owned.

    (just kidding)

    One thing I do know - at least back then, when you bought a gal a burger, fries and a soft drink for 60 cents - she didn't have tattoos and steel bones stuck in her face - now de-myth THAT one!
