Can't imagine you'd get away with this today. Or even back then for that matter.

I think you won this round for sure! And it probably wasn't fast enough to even inflate a parachute.

  11. Emergency roadside repair? The running board is still bashed in (under the cab corner) from whatever "removed" the factory tank.

Vortex I: A Biodegradable Festival of Life (more commonly known as just Vortex I), was a week-long rock festival sponsored by the Portland counterculture community with help from the State of Oregon, and held in 1970 in Clackamas County near Portland. Held in order to demonstrate the positive side of the anti-War Movement and to prevent violent protests during a planned Richard Nixon appearance in the state - it remains the only state-sponsored rock festival in United States history. On the busiest day of the festival, a line of automobiles ran 18 miles from the park gates to southeast Portland.

Right below the thin layer of grime, you can see clues that suggest that the car is nearly new. Factory scribbles on the underside of the fender and on the muffler; paint on axle and leaf springs still shiny. I may be assuming too much, but it's kind of new to be needing the sort of service it's receiving.

^^ I was more interested in the 'lift'. I worked under one of those (decommissioned) for years, and always thought it was just for pulling engines and transporting them across the shop... But it was too close to the wall! I learned from photos on here what the original use was. There are a number of shops along San Franciscos once fabled "Auto Row" where the rail hardware is still in place.

Neat backstory. I wonder if they were no longer used due to safety concerns or in response to accidents. Or, at least, close calls.

I always wondered about the fluids; gas, oil - tilt it up like that and then what? Remember the way Vegas were hauled on rail cars?
