And then Indian. It's a pretty rad story. I am infatuated with those old 4s. Mr henderson died doing what he loved, on a machine made by his dreams.

  3. the other henderson brother left schwinn/henderson going on to form the ace motorcycle co. the ace four cylinder bikes are even cooler than the super-x. they were faster and had more of a refined look. the ace co was then bought out by indian. schwinn stopped building hendersons and concentrated on pedal bikes. the great american four cylinder faded away after the 1940 indian.

  4. A $100K sounds like a lot for any bike. I would be hard pressed to spend that much on a car if I had it to spend.

  5. 100 grand is for a perfectly restored four cylinder. there are several makes and models of two cylinders available for a lot less. knuckle heads and chiefs can be bought for 15,000-50,000 depending on rarity and condition.

I was hoping that Polaris would get one into production. I suppose there's still time.

Or original. I went to a car show (and motorcycle) and saw a guy with an original one. Paint and all. It was beautiful.

Judging from the war bonds sign, it must have been taken during World War II. I believe this is also of downtown Palestine, Texas.

The bus on the left still has the 6-71 blower and I think that is a 4103. The ones with the big back windows are very rare. I'm thinking a one year only change from the teardrop window the city buses had as a transition to the 3 piece 4104 window.

I could be wrong but that looks like Rex Mays on the right. The facial side profile seems right.

That looks like Connie Hines who played the wife on the "Mr. Ed" televivison show sitting in the cockpit. And that's Sherwood Egbert who was the president of Studebaker on the right. Studebaker was one of the sponsors of the television show. Since the Studebaker Avanti was the Indianapolis 500 pace car in 1962 this photo was likely taken at that time.

My cousins neighbor had a black 57 Super 88 like the one in the picture. I was 6 when he came home with that new Olds and he took us a ride, even layed some rubber down on the road after we kept yelling to "burn out!" He polished and waxed that Olds every Sat. and sometimes I would help. Ever rub off simoniz with puny 6 year old arms?

I remember a time or two when my mom drove off with my dad's set of keys in the trunk lock.
