    :D Maybe the first "expressway" was the Autobahn in Germany.Built in the 1930`s.

  7. A service drive is a parallel road to the expressway with accesses to the side streets as in this picture....freeways do not normally have them. Picture 22533.jpg

    Isn't that what we call a Frontage road? Freeways have them a lot of the time.

  16. Yes, basically a frontage road, but with overpasses at each major intersection with on/off ramps....probably about every mile or two. Freeway frontage roads are usually only on one side. Expressways have them continuous on both sides.
