He is using a twin post hoist. You can lift the car and support either end or the whole car with the jack stands that come with the hoist. With the jack stands in place you were clear to work on whatever without the hoist being in the way. They used to be THE hot ticket and I worked with them for about 40 years. Time has passed them by......

They use air over oil. A large oil tank is pressurized with air and the oil is let in and out of the rams. The oil is metered through an orifice so that the rams can only move so fast. However, every now and then the tank would spring a leak so that you did in fact use air then shit did happen. If you were asleep at the switch and did not notice the tank was filling up with WAY too much air the next act was dramatic. I had a 68 Eldorado clear the hoist (like in the air) by a foot. Never lost one or had any damage though. Then the hairy part, trying to let it back down. You would start bleeding the air out and you never knew when it was going to start to drop, or which end would go first. When one did drop it would be about 3/4 of the way and then the air spring affect would shoot it back up again. During that episode the other end would start in. Once safely back on the ground it was time for a trip to the locker room for fresh underwear.

Not twin cam models, missing the unique badging and wheels.

  12. yep! that's a good description. i remember lifting a caddy once and the angle of the lower control arms slid the outer slides in and the car dropped a little. we chained the slide to the lower arm and brought the car down. that was the only problem i ever remember with one of those.

  13. I sure do. For years I bought Eight O'clock Bokar in the bean and grind it at home ( I was so elite!!) with a little Braun grinder.

My Mom was an A&P gal, her sister was a Kroger's devotee.
