Once they got old and leaky they could get cantankerous. You had to be real careful as they would really jump the last few inches. Also once cars started getting shorter and front wheel drive sometimes the rear posts would hang up and not want to lower. You'd have to fix the release handle in the open position and go back and smack the carrier with a hammer, then when it started dropping run up and start lowering the front post before you tailstand the car.
I worked with them old 2 posts lifts for a lot of years at an old Cadillac dealership.

    Fun stuff

  5. It's an easy entrance on a smooth ocean day, but pretty hellacious when the weather is a bit "nautical".

  6. I think the sign is full of it as all of the mileages are off if we assume that it is where 47 and 99W intersect.

Edit: this may clear it up a tad - "The first highway in the corridor was the Capitol Highway (Highway 3), from Portland to Salem via Dayton (roughly present OR 99W and OR 221). In 1927 it was merged with the West Side Highway, which ran from Dayton to Junction City, to form the West Side Pacific Highway, still numbered 3, and a western loop of the Pacific Highway (Highway 1/U.S. Route 99). (The former Capitol Highway south of Dayton was removed from the system, but was later taken over as the Salem-Dayton Highway.)"

Were some scenes from the movie "Overboard" filmed at this location?

  22. Yes they were.
Best know though, for "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" ,it's where Jack Nicholson took the boat to take all the patients fishing. Been there a million times, a very fun place!

Overboard filmed in and around Newport (just down the road) for a number of their water scenes.
