Shortly after the crash, they exhibited the smashed up Spyder on a flatbed at a car show in Hollywood,Ca. which I attended in 1955.

  6. Uhhh, YEAH, it should have, because, you see, a Hudson Jet with Twin-H Power had THE HIGHEST horsepower to weight ratio of any car built in America in 1953. Check your facts and history before you put down those old Hudsons and the Culmerville PD.

StillOutThere, I'll stand by what I said. And, yes, I was making fun of the Jet, which was a $30-million dollar decision that made the company no money and robbed them of the capital to re-do their 1948 body, much less develop a V-8, which was rapidly becomeing the rage in ocnsumers' eyes. CHECK MY FACTS? Yeah, I already did. I happen to love the Hudsons, but the company made a terrible decision that left them deep in debt and with no recourse but to merge into Nash -- as the "Hash."

Hey, Mazooma. Thank God you "got" the commie crack. LOL

And I apologize to StillOutThere. He and I have dealt previously on the HAMB and are friends, as much as you can be in cyberspace.

All I meant was that the Jet was the WRONG car to bring Hudson out of its financial (market position) woes. The Jet was Hudson's $30-million mistake. Packard's was in going together with ailing Studebaker.

In the end, only the maga-corps made it. Even Nash (AMC) had to sell out in the late '80s to Chrysler. I guess, I'll ALWAYS lament that the independents and "start-ups" in that optimistic time after World War II didn't make it -- not one.

[And, no, Jeep, was never a company in its own right.]

My dad had a portable one. He took classes in the early 60's and got some equipment but then went into another line of work.

He still has the equipment but not much call for it. He was a pretty popular guy in the 60's and 70's.

For a good while we had a television sitting out in the garage that a guy had shot up. Interesting story that isn't very P.C. today.
