I think this is a 1962 500 Practice crash involving Jimmy Daywalt. That's racing filmmaker Dick Wallen behind the car with his movie camera.

  11. Don't know the story behind this photo of my Dad and the Law but, I'm guessing it had something to do with the Ford pictured below. 03042017_0002.jpg

This is the cover of the magazine that I got that photo from that I posted earlier, apparently the flight took place in Washington state and the glider landed safely on the ground below after being slid down a greased plank that was strapped to a car at the edge of a 1000 ft cliff......[IMG]

I believe it was Lil' Mike McGreevy driving, it looks like him looking pretty forlorn standing behind the car in this shot.

You are probably correct. But there are also some accounts of Jimmy Daywalt being asked to test the car for McGreevy and hitting the wall in it. Another strange thing is that the tail in your first photo looks like it is in black primer while the second photo the tail (on the other side) looks to be in a much lighter color. I'm not sure why but it is noticeable.

Champcarstats shows both McGreevy and Chuck Arnold also as driving the car with Daywalt wrecking it. Who knows for sure.

I was in the infield the day that happened.

Daywalt backed it into the wall in the south shortchute and there was a huge fireball when the tank split.

Moe and Porter Goff's Drum Stick Icecream Special. Beautiful car, all pearl and candy paint.

The sponsor kept a freezer stocked with product in the garage and there was always a line waiting to get in to get at the free goodies. They had to lock the doors to keep everyone out so they could make repairs.
