Colorado Blvd, Pasadena, 1920s...the "little old lady" was probably not even born back then...

Making movies, Pasadena, CA....photo by J. Allen Hawkins, who was not only one of Pasadena's premier photographers, but a hot rodder who drove a deuce cabriolet...

    jack symes cadillac 1949.jpg
Jack Symes Cadillac was the place to go for Cadillacs in Pasadena...and if your Caddie needed service, a guy came to your house on this 3-wheeler, hooked it to your Cadillac, and drove it back to the service center...most companies had two phone numbers for the two different exchanges (SYcamore, and RYan)....that is why there are two phone numbers on the bike...

    rite spot.jpg
The Rite Spot, favorite hang-out since the 1920s, on the Glendale side of the Colorado Street bridge in Pasadena. It finally closed in the 1990s, no trace left.

  8. 1964 Indy 500 - Parnelli wound up on his head. During a fuel stop the fue burst into invisible flames. He left the pit thinking that all those people waving were cheering him on, til he felt the heat. He decided if the car were going to burn it should be unoccupied, so he pointed it toward the pit wall and jumped out. problem was when he stepped out of the car he stepped on the right rear tire.

  9. Haines and Cross, Bob Haines and Jack Cross operated this top fuel car out of Washington State...I remember watching it at the '60 Smoker's meet, racing Bobby Langley...both cars got crooked, neither driver lifted, they both crossed the center line and finished the race (no penalty for crossing the line back then)...after Bob Haines left to drive for Masters and Richter, Jack Cross hired Ron Tipton to drive, and he drove the car off the end at Puyallup, totaling it...information from Don Ewald's site...no i.d. on who took the photo.
