Our area is in the upper right… In the photo time frame, it was just dirt beyond what you see until the mid 60’s.

    Hello,

This must have been taken during on of the summer months in Laguna Beach. It has not mattered what weekend it was, it is always crowded like this. Living there for 4 years was pretty fabulous, as it was the Laguna Beach “atmosphere.” Sometimes, the traffic gets to be a little too much, even today. A drive up or down the coast gets put off until the tourist traffic dies down in the Fall.

But, we learned to hang out at home and not fight the tourist traffic on Coast Highway in either direction on the weekends. We had the back roads dialed in for “local” runs. Timing and knowing the local roads were the keys to getting in and out of the city, sans traffic. The “Y” gives a clue.

In the old 50’s Laguna Beach photo above, it looks like it was taken from the parking lot of the Laguna Beach Art Museum or the parking entrance to the old Victor Hugo Restaurant back then. (see other posts on Victor Hugo/Las Brisas)

I love the style of lettering that you used. It is very simplistic and straight forward and it fits the truck perfectly.
    Great Job. Jimbo

Are there any Earl Scheib shops still around? The last one I saw a few years ago was over on Royal Road in Dallas.

Had Earl paint my Corvair in the mid 60's. After I did some mud work on it, the paint job looked good, and held up well for a few years !

On the Earl Shieb paint jobs, seems they had a couple of levels. The upgrade was $39.99. I saw a couple of these and they actually looked good. This was in the central New Jersey area.

    Hey J,
1937 to 2010 according to the internet.... for a cash strapped teenager, this was the way to go, $19.95, $29.95, $39.95? But, not for custom paint jobs...the standard colors, except for black.

Remember, it depended on the location, but they did alright. Also, as far as inflation, think back...Motel 6 was actually $6 per room per day. Right next to Long Beach State College, my friends stayed there for a year at $6 a day. Today, Motel 6 costs anywhere from $35 to $41 per day, with a few exceptions, like San Diego at $70 per night.

The first bank Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid robbed was on the corner out of picture from the Sheridan Hotel.

    Hi Swi66,
Is the M3 Grant medium Tank driving down a street in Philadelphia?
Just wondering - on the way to being shipped to Europe in 1942?
