Great pic of some of the Santa Fe engine types from the early 50's, and the diesel shops at Barstow, CA - my home town. Most of the kids I grew up with there had family members that worked for the RR. One of my uncles was a conductor, another an engineer, and my granddad was stockyards foreman there. Many of the guys I went to HS with started work right here in the shops. Good, steady, well-paying jobs with benefits and a chance to advance.
