Yep, my grandad was part of that generation of working men
who believed the myth that an occasional pull at a pocket flask
of whisky would "warm you up." But hey, whatever gets you
through a work day on a VERY hard job, right?

I like the Chrysler Building in the background here. Completed
in 1928, two years before the Empire State, the Chrysler Building
beautifully exudes Art Nouveau elegance, as that mode was
passing from the public fancy. The Empire State was more
reflective of the emerging Art Deco movement.

 

Merle Haggard was checked into San Quentin in Feb of 1959.
