Monrovia, CA. It's not my home town but it's where I live now. This is the main street (Myrtle Ave.) which runs up to the foot of the San Gabriel Mountain Range. Myrtle Ave. has not changed much over the years (it's known as "Old Town" now, kind of quaint).

Same street a few years later. William Monroe purchased the undeveloped property from E.J. "Lucky" Baldwin in the 1850's. Monroe incorporated the property in 1887, called it Monrovia, named it after himself. Population is about 37,000. It's the 4th city to be incorporated in Los Angeles County, after Los Angeles, Santa Monica, and Pasadena.

    Nice Merc...

This picture is of the Kansas City, MO, city market. They now call it the River Market and is infested with guys in tight pants and large women with pink hair. The view is to the SW and the intersection at the top left is 5th street and Grand Ave.

I presume this is also home to the Monrovia Nursery. I've planted literally tens of thousands of their plants during my working days.. That nursery has to be fuggin HUGE!

I love it. This is the first car magazine I ever bought and I still have it. The Merc is perfect, don't you think?

Interestingly enough I found out a couple of years ago that "Lucky" Baldwin was born within walking distance of my backyard. The local history museum (one of those "open one day a month" in a small old house type) has some displays on him.

He was born in Bunker Hill, Ohio, little more than a wide spot in the road in western Butler County in SW Ohio near the Indiana border. His family moved away from the area when he was young.
