So politically correct ! Two women drivers, plus a husband watching while mowing the grass .

Nowadays ,there would be a ride-on lawnmower in the background , and the two women would've heard a warning before they even backed out
The warning sound would be the crushing sound of a bicycle or kid's toy that their "expectant little angels" left in the driveway for the parents to pick up

My calculations are for a 30 mph launch speed a 12" drum would have to spin up from 0 rpm to about 880 rpm; 60 mph of coarse would be 1760 rpm..

My late father in law and his daily driver in 1949, he wasn't a farmer, or poor, or a hot rodder he was just frugal! 20180107_175248.jpg

    Hey RM,
It did snow in 1949 in Los Angeles and we got a white blanket in Long Beach, too. That was my first experience with snow at 5 years old. But, your photo says GORMAN on the Standard Gas Station sign. GORMAN is in the mountains, on the freeway from Los Angeles to Bakersfield and beyond. It is the famous central spot for gas, food and CHAINS. This place is the bottleneck in "The Grapevine."

Many cars come through here between Nor Cal and So Cal. So, it is a popular place to stop and recover from overheating and what ever else happens in traveling. We have stopped here on the way to and from numerous, Andy's Picnics in the Bay Area, and those ever present rock concerts in SF. Also, those long time, running, Oakland Roadster Shows way back then.

    Jnaki
Gorman is considered its own entity, but is part Los Angeles county, not city. Located in the Tejon Pass.

Interesting way of attaching the tow bar to the front of the car.
