    Ninety seconds for three stops was fantastic in 1958; especially considering they were still manually lifting each end of the car separately with a quick lift type frame. That year was also something of a turning point for pit stop procedures. That same year Eddie Kuzma showed up after adding air jacks to the Agajanian car but missed the race. A.J. Watson took note and starting in 1959 had air jacks on his new cars after which they became standard until 1964 when both Firestone and Goodyear developed tires that went 500 miles without a change. Soon after 1958 the Watson crew was doing the three stops with tires and fuel in just over 60 seconds in total.

    That is one fantastic ring, Flathead! I can see why it meant so much to Joe.

    BTW, I've heard him called "Rose Joe" at times. At least I think that was who they were referring to. If that's true do you know how Sostilio got that nickname?

    Thanks Indy for the info. The story how Joe got that name goes like this, When Joe was 8 years old his mother was killed getting off a trolley car in front of their house by a speeding motorist, that meant bringing up Joe was left to his father who was a stone mason running his own business. An old Italian worker befriended young Joe, he drove the 6 wheeler for the father. Well he always brought Joe with him when they were delivering stone to the work site. when this worker would look for Joe he always found him in the old mans shop listening to Amos & Andy on the radio. Amos had the nickname "Rosebud" and he was Joe's favorite , so the old Italian would call to him , Hey Rosey we gotta a go now . and thats the true story how Joe got that very popular nickname. Another popular name Joe had was "front Row Joe " for the incredible amount of times he qualified up front. In 1953 he set fast time at Williams Grove in the Frank Curtis Offy Sprint car that stood unbroken until 1971, 18 years, way into the modern sprint car era, a unbelievable feat. Joe was Bay State Midget Champ in 1947 winning 45 features and was AAA eastern Sprint Car Champ in 1953. He was Johnnie Parsons teammate in Parsons 2 car team in 1950 and was Sam Hanks teammate on the Ed Walsh champ car team in 1953. He was a Non qualifier in in the Belanger Kurtis Dodge hemi due to the fact that in late May AAA lowered the cubic inch on stock blocks to the Offy specs ending his chances at Indy.
