Thanks, Pitts64, for the COLOR of the post-WWII shot of the Soho
steel mill of Jones & Laughlin Steel Corp. When I was under 10,
we lived in Mansfield, OH, near the Empire Steel mill. When they'd
do a pour in the evening, the sight was downright dazzling! Too
bad our government let our steel industry go overseas. As you
note, the mill above employed 5,000 men at its peak. I suppose
they all got fast-food and other service jobs, eh? Grrrr. Go figure.

    And the earlier B&W shot

Chrysler Turbine Car from the movie "The Lively Set".
    Only one not painted Bronze.

Great movie, hard to find nowadays.

That's not Hoover, its Winston Churchill.

    This is J. Edgar Hoover...

Hope this isn't the beginning of that old age disease, but I can't remember what it's called....

Not to get political, just saying the issues are complex. But my opinion is that the government could have helped more to foster a competitive environment for the American steel industry to function -- making steel here that could have remained competitive with steel made in other countries.

A friend of mine sent this link to view old pictures... I was wondering by some slim chance you may know who the lady in the second picture is. With the very few pictures I have seen of my mother at that age, it looks exactly like her. It probably isn't her, but I thought I would ask. Thanks for your trouble! :)
