Right you are. I saw that movie when I was 10 when it was being screened at a park across from our hotel when we were on vacation in SLC in 1954.

Not that much IMHO, the thonge on the boat trailer is pretty long, so it turns relatively slowly....

The first attached photo is a fantastic view of a Bob Pankratz built Championship car driven by Walt Faulkner. Do you know where this photo was taken, Rootie?

And I'm guessing that the second photo must be from an IMCA race somewhere although I don't recognize either the car or the driver. Any info?

    Thanks!

The car in the background looks like Hector Honore's Black Deuce.

The guy in the white coat is standing near a Chrysler possibly bodied by Le Baron.

Springfield 1952. BTW the fellow in the background, wearing the hat, looks a lot like Aggie to me.
Can't identify the #2 sprint car but the rodeo chutes in the background does indeed tell me it's probably a IMCA race at a fairgrounds in the Midwest.

Back when it was called retouching instead of Photoshop. Studebaker was known for doing this a lot; makes me wonder how much of a car they started with in the original - a body shell up on blocks? :D

Upon doing a little more research I believe the #2 sprint car is the Pete Mocca car with Don Carr up circa 1955.

    upload_2018-5-2_5-40-7.png Whoops...
    Hello,

Ingenuity in action during the ever present beach days in So Cal. This scenario played out almost everywhere that was semi-private. Behind this person was a cliff and gave some privacy. It was probably her boyfriend that took this old photo in the late 50s-early 60s. There were a lot of pranksters in this surf club scene. The beach photo was located at San Onofre Beach parking lot. Back then, it was private and exclusive.

At the time, San Onofre was a private beach club for members only. Access to it was a gate manned by a guard(s). Not only was it a private beach club, but to even get to the gate on the beach was a feat in itself. Public access was through a Camp Pendleton military guard gate with armed soldiers manning the pass through road.

But, once on the beach road, parking was free and open. It was for members’ families and friends. These guys/girls were innovators of the early surf scene in So Cal and elsewhere. Look at the ingenuity of moving those super heavy surfboard planks in a cramped coupe. In front of the 36 ford coupe is a design added to another 2 door coupe to transport those huge boards to and from the beach, yet still drive the cool coupe.

We made a similar design surfboard rack on a friend’s car to transport our 1960s heavy foam boards in a small MG roadster to the same beach. How else were those 10+ boards getting to the beach if you did not have a truck or station wagon?

Since this was in a private beach club, no one was called out or given a warning to make wet bathing suit changes behind a door or two. But, this activity also took place in Huntington Beach along the long PCH parking spots. (no parking allowed there, today) The local police stopped frequently to give out tickets for indecent exposure and what ever else was in their rule books. Private vs public… today, it is standard fare for these towel wrapped exchanges to take place everywhere without any penalties. Times change along with social mores. (more rays…)
