A great 1950 photo showing Walt Brown getting into the car for his qualification run while getting his instructions from starter Seth Klein. Another official is working the flags at the starting line for another qualifying run while Klein talks to Brown. Wilbur Shaw can be seen on the right at the rear. And a Firestone engineer is checking the tire pressures; no one set their own pressures as Firestone was all over every car each time it went on the track. Mack Hellings was Brown's teammate that year and those dual air cleaners on the side of the car were manufactured by Mack in his North Hollywood plant. Hellings air cleaners were standard for many years after his 1951 death on midgets, sprints, and Championship cars as a business partner kept things going well into the 1960s.
