In less than a year, Dog's straight-forward thread premise has garnered nearly 800 pages and almost 16,000 posts. Averaging some 40 posts a day says something about what folks seem to think is appropriate to the pretty BROAD premise stated on page 1. People seem to speak up when dissatisfied, which isn't often, and it's all been civil. "Vintage" and "days gone by" leaves reasonable latitude.

On the other nostalgia thread, the premise, intentionally, is considerably narrower, and it works. So, not as many posts, but they are more topically targeted, almost such that one could use the thread as a pre-WWII auto/truck/plane reference. But even there, we've seen plenty of shots that help paint a societal picture of life everywhere, before the war. So, there is some "overlap," IMO.

As Model-A Keith always says: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Built in 1905 for the Lewis & Clark Exposition held in Portland, the Forestry Building was the world's largest log cabin. It was 206 feet long, 102 feet wide and 72 feet tall - and was of course built from massive Northwest logs. After the Expo ended, the building served as a timber museum.

On August 17, 1964 it burned to the ground. It took hours for the fire department to extinguish the fire. I remember pages from books with singed edges landing at our house that night - we lived at least five miles away as the crow flies.

Guys are ALWAYS talking on here about wishing
for a TIME MACHINE, so that they could go BACK
and see (and buy up) great, unmolested cars, see
historic races, actually PARTICIPATE in the Fab '50s,
etc., right??? Well, here's a blast from the past,
straight from 1960 -- featuring a real babe!

Born in LA to a French dad and Mexican mom, Yvette
Mimieux enjoyed film success in the '60s, first gaining
notoriety in "Where the Boys Are" and George Pal's
1960 Sci-Fi hit, "The Time Machine." The movie, which
won an Academy Award and other awards, starred
relatively well-known actors Rod Taylor, Alan Young,
Sebastian Cabot and Whit Bissell. BUT -- the real stars
in movie-goers' eyes had to have been young Yvette
and the awful subterranean cannibal Morlocks!

What an escapist riot movies were in the early '60s,
if all you had was a bike and the only motor you had
was on the lawn mower you used to make a little jingle!

What a beautiful car, and as cold as that thing looked, those guys look like they would trade places in a minute.

Ah! The he-man pulp mags that in the '50s and early '60s
predated, then rivaled slick girlie mags! I used to look forward
to visiting my uncle, in part so I could read the cheesy adventure
stories AND ogle the gals of the month in B&W pix in the back
    pages of the rags! LOL

These covers are from a cool site by Brett and Kate McKay,
"The Art of Manliness." They also have a book by the same
name, as I understand. Great site -- and another keen window
    BACK in time!

She's holding wrenches in an era when ladies would never do such a thing.

  26. Shaw Air Force Base, SC 1971. My '70 Plymouth convertible, I'd just bought it. Eventually it had chrome reverses all around and a slightly higher stance. My first - and last - MOPAR.
