    Hey R,

A couple of months ago, I was sent a confirmation from a sports car connoisseur, that the sports car I had filmed at Lions Dragstrip in 1959-60 was definitely a Mistral Sports Car. It certainly looked like the one our friend was building in his garage during the time we visited him in Long Beach. As hot rods got built back then in 1959-60, word usually spread at school and the drive in parking lots in the usual banter. Since we knew the guy, we had to visit his garage and build. It was not too far from our house and we were surprised that it was a sports car.

    from another thread in 2017:

"But, the one that stood out was this black primered modified sports car that ruled the sports car classes at Lions for a while. That black primered one sure looks like the one our friend had built for the sports car class at the drags. At the time, everyone else locally, was building Fords, Willys, Chevies for the gas coupes and sedan classes. He wanted to be different, so another different fiberglass sports car body plus a huge modified V8 with a 671. That was one of the only big V8 + 671 in a sports car besides that Austin Healey of Norm Cowdry. None of these modified sports cars ran in the SCCA as they were pure drag racing cars. The stock sports cars? Maybe, but certainly not the modified ones…"

After months of searching for historic information, I stumbled onto this website and person who was a wealth of information on sports car bodies and manufacturers. The information I gathered was that it belonged to the local car club, the HiWinders of Long Beach. (not associated with the Hiwinders in the Midwest.) We couldn’t remember if our friend was a member of that local club, but the Mistral Sports Car was a hard charger and did well at Lions.

We lost contact with our friend from those days. Since digitizing my films, I wondered if that Mistral Sports Car is still around in someone’s garage. As we get older, the old sources start disappearing, as well as the memories, and sometimes, so do the race cars.

Thank you for your "Herculean" effort to post interesting pictures! Disregard the "anal-ists".

I enjoy looking at pictures in this thread and others because they jar my memory and bring a smile to my face as I remember certain events in my life. I have enjoyed the moment I first see the picture and it resonated a memory like seeing a 56 Ford like my dad had, or the Long Beach Pike where I went as a kid.
I want to enjoy not analyze to make sure its a traditional, vintage, photoshop, or whatever.
Lets not destroy that moment by analyzing, sorting, or arguing definitions. I like Mr. Reynolds contributions and if there is a slip up it is not the end of the world.

Oh...the one picture I did see the girl pictured was wearing a Timex model 2346A, which everyone should know wasn't available to the public until 1974. [emoji3]
