Awesome movie. One of Newman's best.
I worked at a theater in the mid-'60s & the
boss let me have one of these posters un-
used. I kept it nearly 40 years, and it sold
    for over $600 on egag.

Flathead Guy, unless it's a secret, could you give your fellow
HAMBers some coordinates, yard name, etc., in SW Nebreaska?

I'd say it was the old Balboa Stadium, San Diego.

Zooma, LIKE yer headwear, bro! I've seen this shot
before. It ALWAYS leaves me speechless!!! Just un-
fathomable that there could be so many cheap, readily
available coupe bodies around, eh? Golly, how a few
    decades change everything!

"The Grapes of Wrath" won two Oscars at the 1941 Academy
of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences ceremonies. The above
photo of the dispossessed Joad clan puttering toward hope
of a new life in California is THANKS to the Yale University
by way of Wikipedia. Like many graphics, the photo is
copyrighted; it is presented here under fair-use rationale
and, thus, is presented for information and discussion only.

This appears to me an 11" X 14" lobby card for the movie's
original 1940 release. I ran across it at a site sponsored by
the All Soul Unitarian Universalist Church to whom I say
THANK YOU! I'm sorry this poster isn't larger, as it features
a lithograph by famed 1930s regionalist muralist Thomas
Hart Benton of Missouri. He did, perhaps, more than any
artist to put a human face on the suffering of the Great
    Depression.

Thanks to the Ralph Foster Museum, here is a tempera color mural
from the same portfolio commissioned to Benton by 20th Century
Fox to publicize the then-new film.

Famed director John Ford directs Henry Fonda, as disenfranchised Okie
farmer Tom Joad, in the film version of Steinbeck's "The Grapes of Wrath,"
1940. Is the family truck a Hudson??? This keen behind-the-scenes photo
is THANKS to a site called gonemovies.

This "Grapes of Wrath" photo with Fonda and Jane Darwell
is THANKS to the AACA forums, according to AOL.

Dad and I went to Western Speedway in Gardena just about every sunday in the late 50's and watched those '32-'34 coupes and sedans go end-over-end, into the wooden walls and seemingly the drivers didn't get hurt very often. There were tow trucks lined up in the infield ready to take the wrecked deuces and the others to the wrecking yards. Some teams took the good stuff off, any usable engine parts, etc. and then, off they went to the junk yards.
    No big deal....

this yellow spot is about where we'd sit every sunday...between turn 3 and 4
