I remember going past and stopping at what we called the "ship hotel" on Route 30 when I was a kid. It was a neat place with a fabulous view. I found out it was built in 1932. It closed in 1987 and unfortunately it burned to the ground in 2001.

The Sunoco station I worked at in Akron NY at the time.
We could only get 80% of what we got the year before.
We were told to ration gas.
    Owners opinion was.
    Sell them whatever they want.
When we're out, close the pumps and let the guys collect unemployment until we have gas again.
Did that for one month, then discovered, as a "new" customer, we could buy texaco gas from a different supplier when we ran out of Sunoco.
We were privately owned, but branded Sunoco.
Sunoco made us take their sign down when they found out we were selling gas like crazy, and not playing by the rules.

    Not far from us.
A closed down station had underground tanks filled for storage.
Someone found out and came in the night and literally pumped it all out.

There was plenty of gas.........you will never convince me otherwise.
    Everyone was played!
