    Alsancle/Twin6,

Yes, that photo is at the South Street address in Rensselaer where the 1936 Packard Speedster was assembled by Mr. Saunders. Mr. Saunders worked for Packard at several dealerships. Dad recently found the photo above in a Packard Twelve repair manual.

This car is clearly a survivor.

The boat tail body was placed on a Marmon Chassis before the Packard chassis.

The original builder constantly upgraded the car mechanically and body wise. For example, the hood sides were eventually cut out. The cut out panels from the hood in the photo still exists. He later put in a bored out and balanced Packard Twelve with twin superchargers.

The photo above is very similar to the one that was included in the small Motor Trend article in July 1951 (page 41). It is also similar to a pen and ink by Wyanski done from a different photo taken on the opposite side of the car. That drawing was included in another article about the car in the 60s or 70s.

I have lots of documentation of the car. From magazines, letters, build notes, NYS documentation, documents for engine build, chassis and body donor cars. Some of it is yellowed and in rough shape. Many of the photos were kept in Mr. Saunders' wallet, so they are in rough shape as well. Some are in wonderful condition and depict the hydraulic brake upgrades he did and even include boattail body placement photos on the Packard chassis.

Mr. Saunders died in the mid-seventies. That is when the new story of the car developed. So you are correct to point out there was a story line that was created for the car after the original owner died.

The irony is, the car's first trip to Europe was when it was sent to the museum in Leipzig. I would love to hear from anyone in Germany that could supply more information.

If you have anything else to add, such as the article regarding a legal struggle. I have not found that article. Anything is helpful, photos or stories about Mr. Saunders. I would love to add any of it to the info I have gathered. Let me know. I have put together over 8,000 words so far to summarize it all.

I did do a bunch of research on Mr. Saunders' early years when he raced and modified the Maxwell. One of our friends actually found a Trophy from the Maxwell racing days.

Earthquake in Alaska - looks like that '58 had the ill fated air suspension option that was offered in '58 - by '64 most of the cars with this option rode like that!

'Zooma, yes, Anne Francis was a living doll. The mole
was perfect -- made her human. I'll bet you remember
her in the '65/'66 series, "Honey West"! Sophisticated
private-eye show. Very in tune with the Bond-era aura!
She won a Golden Globe for best actress TV series, was
nominated for an Emmy, and writers Levinson & Link
    were cited for their writing.
