Beyond the headlights, now this is purely a guess on my part. The 58 may have been a repeat of what happened in 55 for new the model year/departure of prior year styling with only a few mods. It's a known fact that Chevy went over schedule that their pick-up line for 55 didn't get released on time. In 58 though, both car and truck came out on time.

 

Is that license plate recessed (frenched?) area stock?

Some of the Kiwi home built specials from the 40's and 50's couldn't compete against the high $$$ factory built cars that started arriving from the northern hemisphere in the late 50's
So they got a 2nd "lease of life" as club racers.

These old Racing cars were quite dangerous, This particular meeting had tragic consequences.
Sadly Brian Mabey lost his life in this accident at Nelson February 4, 1961

I found them on an Aussie early hot rods site.It had Ronnie Williams name attached to some of the pics as well.I met Ronnie at your house a few times years ago. Ronnie must've made up a site in conjunction with The Drag-Ens and put them up years ago?If I can find the site again I'll link it for you!...
