I saw LOTS of Pontiac Police cars when I was a kid but nothing as old as that '41/'42 (I'm not that old ). Growing up in Oakland County MI in the 50s & 60s where the city of Pontiac is - and Pontiacs were built, the county ran black & whites for many years. Here's a pic I found & posted awhile back, of a '56 Pontiac City police car on what looks like Saganaw Street, downtown Pontiac:

He was laid to rest with honners after a lucky shot
and later moved .He was very respected by his
enemy,s to have a funneral and photographed for
his comrads ,,,shivelry ,,a lost art .

 

Don't know Johnny....doubt it was a promo for the Academy Awards, unless they held them on a wednesday back then...could be.

Johnny, I'd just print it out and frame it and tell everyone that Marilyn Monroe was telling the world that she was celebrating your birthday.

Manfred von Richthoven was indeed deemed respect by his enemies,
I think, primarily because of his obvious skills but also because he was
a formidable warrior. Given Germany's numerical aerial inferiority, he
did not expect quarter, so he gave no quarter. He trained new pilots
not only to support one another in dogfights but always to go for a "kill,"
meaning try and kill the enemy pilot. Reasoning simple: The enemy
had more planes than pilots; any pilot who survived a fight could be
back in the air the next day, in a different plane.

The "baron" was almost fatherly toward his underlings and, maybe, took
too much psychological responsibility for their safety. The "Flying Circus"
functioned very well, shifting here and there. But I do believe the pressure
Richthoven took upon himself probably amounted to constant battle fatigue
as the war dragged out. An Australian gunnery sergeant (research has now
proven) nailed him with a single .303 round, probably from a Lewis canister-
fed gun. The rap, for decades, was that the baron had gotten careless. I do
not believe that. It was, instead, a calculated risk. He knew he would "get"
the young Brit (Canadian, maybe?) pilot he had on the run, so he stayed
in pursuit, even though he knew he was flying close to allied lines.

That said, in the end, death was no ominous specter for him. He wasn't
afraid. In fact, after so many deadly missions, I wonder if living or dying
even mattered any more to him.

Rudyard Kipling is famously quoted as saying:
"The coward dies a thousand deaths, the brave man only one."

Von Richthoven died but once.
