This is a Russian Space Craft tracking ship, named after Vladimir Komarov, the Cosmonant that died in the first Soyuz flight.

The other ship pictured a page or 2 back with big antennas is the Yuri Gagarin.

The Russians gave up on this fleet of vessels about 20 years ago. They only use a few land sites in the Russian landscape now.

 

Looks like a Tu-104 airliner, and the Aeroflot seems to confirm that. Don't remember seeing a photo of one with a bombardier's nose. Could have been a navigator compartment, I suppose. This was an adaptation of the Tu-16 (NATO designation Badger) bomber, but the Tu-16 was a mid-wing.

Heard a lot from these guys and the Badgers when serving with the USAF Security Service in northern Japan in the late 1960s.

 

Looks a lot like a Lola.

 

But do you know what this one is?



M-50/52 or Nato Designator Bounder. Never mass produced. Kinda like a USAF B-58 Hustler. I always thought they looked cool, out of a science fiction movie. Gary
