I met his cousin last year... he's a nice guy. Still lives in that house in the photo, where he and Jimmy grew up.

This photo was posted last month and there was an address visible in the background on the side of a building. It was an unusual street name so it looked like it might be worth doing some searching online. This doesn't usually turn out to be worth the effort. But this time I think I've got a match so here's a "then and now" comparison of this intersection in Oakland, CA.

Nice, takes me back in time. Notice small hub caps and 409 designation under crossed flags on front finder, I know you can’t read it but that was only thing under emblems in ’62.

Thanks to their sitting on their asses (and pregnant) demanding more money, geniuses went to work designing labor saving automated farm equipment.

Easy Peazzy..... Tail Gate is open in the horizontal position...Something from the cargo area ,chunk of firewood, piece of 2x4, bumper jack base, etc. , falls into the space between the rear of the cargo floor & the bottom of the tailgate, (now facing the front of the car )... Someone "closes" the tailgate by lifting it up, crushing the piece of whatever between the bottom of the gate & the back of the floor....The error is noticed ....Loud cursing is heard ....The obstruction is removed ...The gate is closed & secured .....Mom says no $$$$ available for cosmetic repair.....Dad says screw it...It's only a Plymouth.......Life goes on.........

    Hey Mark,
Those were called Natural Gas tanks. The metal frame enclosed a structure that was leak proof and the "balloon" expanded as the level of gas was pumped inside. With usage, the level went down and the tanks got lower. They were very prominent in the LA Basin.

    upload_2019-6-14_17-50-29.png
When my dad took us to downtown LA, we always drove past those tanks. At first, we had the same questions as everyone else about the tanks. How did they work, who stores the gas and where does it go...etc.

But, then we saw several huge ones in the Signal Hill portion of Long Beach, near Spring Street and Cherry Ave. (near the old Long Beach Airport) When we started driving, they were still around. Now, they are all gone.

They were quite impressive up close and we always had a question when we drove by them and smelled something. But, we were told that they did not leak.

Bleach's photos of LA and Jnaki history lessons paint a picture of the brilliance of the forward thinkers of LA/Southern Cal.
Look at the forward thinking and planning done in the 50's with wide boulevards, multilane freeways and highways with elaborate interchanges. Oil production, gas storage tanks, huge shopping centers all for more and better commerce.
The forward thinkers established a web of access for everyone to prosper, and prosper you could. Industries flourished as a result of excellent and brilliant planning along with minimum regulations to hinder growth.
Coupled with all that was good wages, low cost of living and access to anything your heart desired
Southern California grew to be an economic machine that feeds on itself. The weather helps too.
    I love LA.
    Thank You Bleach and Jnaki
