You guys are doing a hell of a job of illustrating the great soda
parlors and drive-in restaurants, as well as the WWII mamorabilia.
(OOPS, I must have been thinking of MM! I meant memorabilia!
    Nyuk, nyuk!)

    Irreplaceable, incomparable, one-of-a-kind! Photo
of the 3 Stooges in 1940, THANKS to the equally ir-
replaceable Internet Movie Database (IMBD)! Irre-
placeable HELPS to explain why so many performers
are scared to try and do a NEW 3 Stooges movie,
    doesn't it? Whoo, whoo!!

The HAMB is GREAT! It was just a mysterious pic, and folks chipped in info 'til we almost know ol' John's blood type! THANKS to all who took an interest -- ChrisnTx, SixDogs, Al K and RodPro !!!

Conclusions: This photo of John Fox and his gas station was likely shot in the mid-1920s, possibly as late as the early '30s. This is Mt. Morris, in Greene County, Pennsylvania's most southeast county, just miles from Morgantown and Wheeling, WVa. Seems likely the station was on he town's main drag, which would one day become Interstate 79. Mt. Morris remains an unincorporated small town today (photos on the town's historical site shows its agrarian roots).

SixDogs' comment got me thinking. If John Fox is 80-85 in this pic, and the pic was shot about 1925-30, THEN he might well have been born NOT ONLY before the civil war BUT have been old enough to have served in the Union Army! I'd give five bucks to see his grave stone and just SEE if there's a brass G.A.R. medalion planted there!

Gotta be ONE OF THE BEST GAS STATION SHOTS on this whole thread! THANKS again, ChrisnTx for posting it!

Here are s'more oldies from Mt. Morris!

Mailman Henry B. Fox of Mt. Morris. Henry retired in 1920 and was replaced by one Bob Russell. Who can say if Henry was related to John? But it seems certain the Foxes had a considerably extended family in the Mt. Morris area. All these photos are from mtmorrishistory.org. THANKS!

Circa 1900 panoramic photo of Mt. Morris, taken from Town Hill.
All these pix come from the collection of one John Kennedy.

Worked for my aunt in 59 for the summer in Elsegundo, spent many a night at the lighthouse and still have a post card from there. Wanted to play the bass but never had the talent.

Clark Wade, daughter Jesse, Tom Rogers, and unknown man
at Clark Wade’s Coal Mine (really a coal bank). [JIMI: I'm as-
suming what they MEANT here is that Clark operated a "DRIFT
MINE," as opposed to a shaft, or "deep," mine. Any HAMBers
have some knowledge of coal mining???]

William Gannon, Mt. Morris town dentist, likely shot around 1915 to 1925. Imagine the dental technology at the time! E.g., laughing gas instead of novacane!

Who could forget this popular 50's item? At first, I didn't remember it as a game but I guess it was.

Typical "soda jerk", a prestige '50's teen occupation since you dispensed the goods, often in unequal volume, to the babes and your friends. This primo job often went to a somewhat nerdy person because of the prerequisite of math skills to add the bill. Never saw a JD as one.

Turn of the century family photo--of just the children I believe. Possible mom upper left but looks too young. Lots of kids died young plus you needed the labor on the farm. Average life expectancy in 1902 was only 47 years so don't wax too nostalgic. All girls had to be a mixed blessing for the breadwinner--I'll bet they knew how to work in the fields.

Post 20222. The Lighthouse Cafe, Pier Ave, Hermosa Beach Cal. The end of the line for jazz bands on tour from the east coast. My long career as a jazz saxophonist took me to the Lighthouse a few times, the last time being in the mid '90s, working with Illinois Jacquet. The Lighthouse is still in business.

Looks like a chaperoned (photo taker) early first date. Maybe 1956 since kid appears to have a pompador haircut--think early Elvis, Little Richard or Ricky Nelson.

Thats the original building it mysteriously burned down during WW I ...a guard closed the door to the library and that was the only part of the original saved, and kept during the reconstruction.
