  3. These days we'd call that illegal activity.

  4. Not too act stupid, but who was Curtis Lemay?
It looks like a familiar face of a guy I used to see wrenching on Corvettes everywhere there was a "speed contest".

  5. He was a famous WWII Army Air Corp commander. Then went on to be SAC commander. Here's a little snip from a bio. (borrowed from Wiki) I was doing some early Corvette stuff a while back, and I ran across some other pictures from that same scene. I can't find the darn things now or I'd post them. He had a thing for fast planes and fast cars and liked to blow stuff up. :D:D Usually has a big stoggy in his mouth.

If you've ever read Smokey Yunick's book you'll see what a "colorful" relationship he had with Lemay. (Yunick was a B-17 pilot and was under command of Lemay) They weren't exactly buddies. Many years later they ran into each other at the Indy 500 where Yunick was a car owner and Lemay was a spectator. Good stuff. :D:D:D
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Curtis Emerson LeMay (November 15, 1906–October 1, 1990) was a general in the United States Air Force and the vice presidential running mate of American Independent Party candidate George Wallace in 1968.
He is credited with designing and implementing an effective, but also controversial, systematic strategic bombing campaign in the Pacific theater of World War II. During the war, he was known for planning and executing a massive bombing campaign against cities in Japan. After the war, he headed the Berlin airlift, then reorganized the Strategic Air Command (SAC) into an effective instrument of nuclear war.
