It seems the cities today are crying about not having enough money and it shows in the pics the destruction of a bunch of buildings and the removal of alot of small buisnesses so with progress they got rid of most of their tax base,it also shows that there was alot of activity going on in the past compared to today in some areas.

Killer stuff Toby. The present one of Lane Drug is cooler without the signage. Never been to Atlanta yet. Thanks. Slim

I have been through Atlanta many times but never been in it to see what it had to offer,I would imagine the highways cutting through it took away alot of its older charm.

Are the road lines in the upper photo hand-painted? If we go back in time, count me out of that job.

Wouldn't it be cool to restore this Amoco station using the "past" photo as a reference.

Past - Interesting note here. The Jacob's Drug store you see on the corner in this photo is the remnants of the Jacob's Pharmacy where Coca Cola was invented. Originally the drink was the syrup without the carbonation. It was laced with cocaine (which was legal in the late 19th century). It was sold as a remedy for headaches and other afflictions. The story is that customers started asking for a shot of seltzer water to liven up the drink. This was the beginning of the Coca Cola we know today.
