Doing some research recently ive noticed on several of the old SP and Scott tops for 97s they were cast with this boss and threaded hole in the side of them. Does anyone know why you would need this? Im hoping im not just having a ridiculous brain fart at the moment after lunch but since these two tops dont traditionally have choke's included why would you need them? I have found pictures like the ones i grabbed off the internet below where they are not being used (circled in red), and then others where the choke arm upper pivot is bolted on but it doesnt seem like its doing anything or attached to anything? Was this cast in the top just an option to "park" the choke arm without having to remove it from the lower pivot and then run a spacer in its place when setting up one of these tops?

Thanks in advance to anyone who may have personal insight on this particular subject!

The upright arm that would screw to that pivot holds an adjustment screw for the throttle plate. Note the chromed set has one of them cut and welded to the top edge of the base. A common solution if you don't want the whole upright arm.

Ahh got it .. yes i over looked that adjustment screw thinking it was only related to Throttle adjustments when using the Choke. Forgot its the main screw for idle speed ..

    Thank you!

  5. Alchemy, you are almost correct. Both of the chrome carburetors have the cut off arm welded, or brazed to the cast iron base. I used to take the brazed arms off, But now I leave them on when I have a customer that is going to be running multiple carburetors. That way you still have the adjusting screw and spring able to do the job it is supposed to do. If anyone has the upper linkage kicker for Stromberg 97, and 81 carburetors, I would be interested in getting them. Thanks.
