Any one else have toruble with vintage speed ? It took two mounths and 4 phone calls (One to cancel order) . Then the items were shipped ,once I did not want them . Then I returned them and can not get a credit on my card ( some how I new that was an empty promess . How can this man stay in busness ? Brendan
Do a search for "vintage speed" on the HAMB. The many problems have been do***ented over & over & over & over...............
Seems like old Charlie has more business than he can handle. I've seen a lot of posts on other boards complaining about the same things. I did notice that he is listing a lot of his products on E-bay, so maybe that's why he doesn't have time for the rest of us. Just my guess. I needed some stromberg 97 parts and ended up going to 97 Heaven for them.
Are ya' talkin' about the carb guy outa' Florida? If so, Ol'Charlie and his Ol'Lady strike again . There was a thread over on the Fordbarn Website where Ol'Charlie hasn't delivered a carb to a customer after 8+ months of waiting. Do a search here and you'll be reading for a couple of hours. It's entertaining.
YES, I have had issues with them also. fortunatly I never sent them any money. the great stromberg mystery is one of them. That's why I came to the hamb orginally to look into some of these lame people who are in the hot rod business but treat customers poorly..they are not the only ones out there, man I would love to see some kind of registery for hot rod companys where you can post these problems. If it hits their bottom line then they would clean up their act or go under. just my 2 cents
Don't let them waste your time or money, but wasting Charlie's time can be worthwhile--if he answers the phone, try to start him up on speed equipment history. He knows a lot about Edmunds, Eelco, and so on, and loves to talk. Let him entertain and perhaps inform you while he's busy not doing someone else's carb. And--learn to do your own carbs! There's already lots of good stuff posted here, and Flathead Youngin and I are busy in the middle of a lengthy series of Stromberg posts in which we hope to publish a ton of original manuals, show how to make the tools needed, cover what we know about rebuild tech, and offer a forum for all the other carb expertise on here. Some is already on the board.
Yep, I ordered a set of carbs about 14 months ago. I believe that mine are lost somewhere in the Bermuda Triangle. Doc.
I ask him a question at daytona, he started to answer, then some one else ask about a higher priced item and I was a POS. hell with him.
Look up regulation Z regarding credit cards...... Call your card comapany, and they'll reverse the charges...that might awaken him!
The shame of it is that he makes really nice pieces and reproduces the things that you want to see reproduced. The bummer is that he just doesn't seem to know how to handle his business. I tried to buy parts from there once and after a few weeks ended up cancelling my order and getting a refund. I'd rather have had the parts but I got fed up. Sounds like he loses a ton of business that way. Too bad. I like what he makes.
I've had three really good dealings with him - no problem - but am starting to worry that my latest linkage order may hit the fan. I don't the guy is scamming or anything - you just sorta roll the dice when you order from him. Always have a back-up plan.
I was down to the Daytona 500 last year and I called charlie and he told me to call the next day at a set time and I could stop buy and pickup my parts...so I called at that time and no one ever answered, I called for a week and no one answered...as far as I'm concerened the guys P.O.S.
I got a 4 carb set up from him took 6 months to get and i had to rebuild all 4 carbs to get it to run they were missing parts inside the carbs called him he said sorry and tobad so i said a few words of my own to him and that was it, HIS WORK FRICKING **** AS DOES THE WAY HE DOES BUSINESS.
Aha! Now, where can one get some of the stuff only he has? He DOES has stuff I haven't seen anywhere else. Of course I have been waiting for him to get those Desoto hemi multicarb intakes in. I need a short decker and a tall decker! May have to pay the big $$ to get an old one and get them reproduced myself..... I do wish he'd get it together and take care of business. regards, DJ
he had some cool **** for my rare 371 j2 olds he told me about at the turkey rud run. i went home and ordered it. he emailed me and said it was ready to be shipped as soon as i give him a credit card that was not declined. i guess i maxed that ****er out at the rod run, anyone, when and if i get it i will update you, randy
My opinion FWIW; have done business with Mr. Price and also with Jere Jobe. Jere's product is far superior and his service is very good. If you can't do them yourself I'd use him.
Ha! I should post my problems with Northwest Speed Equipment on here. I could fill a WHOLE page! Thanks to everyone for the advice about Vintage Speed. I really need to find a reliable carb shop to do the multi carb setups that we use. I need to get four 2G's (large bore) for my '28 Es*** project. Any recommendations?
I Highly recommend **** York (****ster on the HAMB) for carb rebuilding. He's done all kinds of wacky setups for me and a lot of folks I know. He is brutally honest and does what he says when he says. His work is top notch and it will run when you get it and look awesome too. He's done 8x2's, Lathams, etc.. and fears nothing. He'll custom make linkage and more.
Hey Nori, what's happening, long time no hear? I just bought a pair of reworked end carb 2GC bases from him in Daytona. They are perfect. The ****erflies seat with Swiss watch precision, the throttle rods are percfect and the idle circuits filled with silver solder. I guess you gotta buy stuff from him in person. Poor fella gets beaten up more than anyone else on this board.
I agree with Nads, dude does take some ****! I must be lucky because everthing I have ordered from Vintage has come quick and right. Absolutelly no problems.-MIKE I think I better quit while I'm ahead
Order as such a such speed shop or jack*** customs. They seem to do a little better with business orders.
If he has what you need in his ebay auctions that's the way to go----items often go for a little less than the web prices and delivery is fast 'cause he has to protect his feedback. I have bought several items that way and everything arrived quickly and quality was good. Marcy
I never ordered any carbs or had any rebuilt but I have ordered parts from him about 6 or 7 times. I got the parts timely and the order was always correct. The thing to do is order online - don't call him to get them.
