I've always liked the old parade lap pics, You can almost hear the Offys growling. Milwaukee 54, not sure of the cast of characters, but I suspect that's Ruttman in the 98 and maybe Bryan in the 9 (?)

Milwaukee Rex Mays Classic June 6,1954

    #9-Bill Vukovich #98-Chuck Stevenson

    #28-Larry Crockett #6-Troy Ruttman

Vuky drove in place of Bryan, because Jimmy Bryan was in bad shape after running second at Indy with a broken shock.

Thanks Buildy, that's a good site. Looking close, it doesn't look like Bryan in the 9. Just a few days before at Indy:

Another good pace lap pic, DuQuoin 1960. Branson-7, Ruby-98, Herk-3, A.J.-5. (good crowd too!)

Man I wish USAC wasn't so screwed up and could still draw crowds like that!

You are right,Milwaukee was still dirt in 1953.

The photo of the pace lap from 1954 was the first AAA Championship race on the Milwaukee pavement.

Interesting, it appears the 98 car has part of the grill taped off. Can't believe they were having problems keeping the temp. up in Wisc. in June. Early day aero work?

That particular car had a very large grille opening-compare it to the #9 Dean Van lines car. Both cars were Kuzma built cars.
It wasn`t cold out, judging by Vuky and Stevenson in tee shirts.
Still the tape is more about getting the right amount of heat in the Offy I would guess.

In reality this is a 1948 version of one of the 1935 Miller Fords. It's shown as semi restored from the damage incurred when Andy Granatelli crashed it at Indy. Per E. Dean Butler (of Zakira's Garage in Cincy) three or four of the Miller Fords were converted to Offy power as well as Winfield (NOVI) power.

Is the frame design and independent suspension from 1935?

I suspect you're right, found this pic of McGrath at Indy 49 with a similar deal.

Yes. That's the way Harry Miller built things.

This is not a Miller but similar. This a front wheel drive Kurtis? car that was at Joe Bairds shop in Shelbyville In.

Thanks. That helped me a bunch in understading what moves in the suspension.

It was good to meet alot of you guys in person, wish i could have put more names with faces.. Great show all in all, my boy was stoked having his bicycle in with his uncles sporty and all of the race cars and the huge selection of 32's there, he already wants me to sell the T and the 54 for a 32 5 window. I guess he won the lottery and is going to lend me some cash..
