Sorry about the lip slip. But you probably noticed the other ones, including an Edmunds/Mercruiser on the left coast for people with really deep pockets.

I have it on very reliable authority that this car is, in fact, the Ebb Rose/Herb Porter "Racing Associates" Watson roadster that first showed up at Indy in 1963. Troy Ruttman up. Too slow. Back again in 1964 with J.Rutherford. Started 15, wrecked 2nd lap. 1965 with Bobby Grim, too slow. 1966,again with Grim and now carrying a turbo-Offy. Started 31, finished 31 (ist lap wreck). The last roadster to make the race.

Bob McConnel has a restored car that he has been presenting as the Racing Associates car for several years. My sources say that that car has only a small part of the original in it whereas the one currently in Watsons shop is most of the rolling chassis of the original.

As an asides, it has been reported by a friend who is close to Watson that upon visiting A.J.'s shop and seeing the car upside down (as it was shown on here) he remarked that "seeing a race car upside down gave him a bad feeling"( usually a sign of something bad). Watson's response was that it was confusing too. Fred asked why; the reply was that the motor plate had been installed upside down and, worse, the brake pedal had been fabbed and mounted on the inverted motor plate.

  6. That makes sense. The Burkes and Ebb Rose I think were from Houston. For a time, the roadster was in the way.

Is it possible that the motor plate was inverted to fit an sbc in there and get it off the ground more?

I thought I posted this a couple days ago but since I don't see it I'll try again. The Barzda car was campaigned for a couple years back the AAA/USAC transition years with a BLOWN Ford V-8 60 in it. He competed and ran WITH the Offies. I believe he actually copped a main.

A couple weeks ago, the blower setup from the car was on E-Bay.

  8. This is the car that had the "string with a lemon slice" in the belly pan isn't it?

'BZNEIL, 'When you read this, I just wanted to let you know that I have never been impressed with someone's approach to designing and building a car as I am of you. And you couldn't have picked a better car to model it after than Don Edmunds. Everyone gives credit to Frank Kurtis as being the "Father" of building the midgets. But Don Edmunds was the "Man." All the things he brought to building a car were unmatched at the time. Among other little things were incorporating cloth with the vinyl (or leather) into the upholstery, when cages became mandatory, he put it "inside" the car. The very uniquely designed external dry sump tank and his own style of nose grill; just to name a few. With or without the cage Don's cars were the best, IMHO. Good luck with your project!

Barzda used the blower off a Maserati that he had left over from a Indy attempt. In 59 he dropped the first sbc in it, a stone stock 283 out of a station wagon with f.i. installed.

Well, that's not me, but if you have no success with Winters, try Sander Engineering. They still make knock-off front hubs. You can get the whole kit (hubs, bearings, pins, seals, nuts, pressure plates) for $600 +/-. I think Speedway Motors still sells front nuts, too...it seems to me that's where the last set I bought came from.

On edit, they still do: http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Hex-Axle-Nuts,2316.html

No.. It was the spare with all the parts. He still has the Sprint car that Jim Mann put together as a roller, and the champ car. He's got them looking really good!

    ----------------

Guys, Thanks for all the contacts on the bushings. I hadn't even picked up the phone and tried to find them yet.. and had no Idea if they were gonna be "hard to find' items. Look's like they are NOT!

    -----------------

Here are some shotd of the B-ville car. Most of what I have done can't be seen. Frame strengthening, re-designing, fitting... The Miller style nose is getting polished, and I'm just waiting for more parts to come in on other issues.

rootie/ron kramer - the barzda, california speed & sport shop, stretched midget, was one of my uncle jiggs favorite rides - he swore he could flat foot it around the grove anytime! -currently at the EMMR museum at latimore, owned by chuck reinert sr. - wish i could've afforded it a couple of years ago when it came up for sale - jimmy barzda wishes he still had his uncle joe's car too - a great pic of it with the blower on the V8 60 in buzz roses book "eastern bull rings".

  20. Tell him the vintage race car world is short on these! Most of us didn't even know they were being made anymore.

    Thanks.

Figured you were tongue in cheek. All the old stuff went through the ceiling, pricewise, even the old sprinter. Must still be some people out there that have some money left.

Thanks for all the great comments on my midget body design so far, you guys will get a kick out of seeing the full size buck milled out of lots of foam squares.

Littlefauss, I have always thought Edmunds Cars always had great styling also, especially during the cageless era. I think his styling during this era is overlooked because he only built cageless cars for a few years before putting the cages on.

Edmunds is one of the greatest craftsmen that has ever lived, this is off topic but when I was a kid Don Edmunds sons Danny and Lee and I would catch tarantulas by there home in Anaheim Hills which in the 70's was pretty secluded, they had this cool house on top of this hill and their closest neighbor was Jose Feliciano, anyway we would catch these tarantulas and Don had made a mould to make paper weights out of, he would throw these tarantulas in this mold and fill it with clear acrylic plastic and man they made the coolest paper weights, the tarantulas would just freeze when that stuff hit them with a couple legs up in the air Back to being on topic Edmunds 70's midgets AND his Sprint Cars in my book are as beautiful as any race car except maybe a Miller. Don't forget he built Super Vees and the Lightning Indy cars too. Oh yea and the "first" sky cycle for Evel Knievel Don has always been one of my idols

I was at his place in nov. 77 (edmunds) after we went to turkey night at ascot, we brought sprint back for somebody. It was one like Gowdy ran at the time. Anyway..There were a few aluminum bodied sportscars there. Do you remember what they were ????

I talked to Randy Mausteller's son on the phone last night. He is going to go through there pics and see what he can find. I forund a picture of a cage car with my tail cover on it, but the hood is WAY different!

The maustellers are SERIOUS racers! Check out there website. (Warning: Wings present)

    http://www.mausteller.com/

The 8th car on there "Old pictures" page has my tail on it, but that's about it.
