I would have to agree with c/g it would be pull. The natural human inclination to slow somethig down would be to pull on it.

The handbrake pulled back. You only used it
when the throttle stuck , to get back in the
pits at the end of the race.

Man, Rootie.. Now you got me drooling over Ted horns "Baby" again.. My Fiance said I souldn't look at internet porn.:D

I CAN NOT BEGIN TO EXPRESS TO ANY OF YOU THAT HAVE NOT SEEN THIS CAR IN PERSON AS TO HOW UNBELIEVABLE IT IS!

IT was WAY ahead of its time.. When everyone else's cars looked like primal rail buggies, These guys rolled this car out, and changed the game...

It has shit going on that baffles builders today...

    Just look at this pic.

Instead of the basic engine tuned flat piece of alluminium for a dash, they rolled the bottom edge,, and painted it.

then theres the guages.. They are "Inset" a half inch behind another piece of glass to keep free of dust and I was told "help vibration" but I don't know how that works...

But best of all.. Look up in the top left hand corner.. Talk about detail!! Every car got a piece of plexi glass screwed to the cowl to protect the driver, (From his own front wheel roost half the time) But.. On this car, The Metal guy, HAMERED in a "reveal" for the windshield to sit in, so it is "Flush" on the outside!! No planishing hammers or PULLMAXES here... Thats just not stuff guys did on dirt cars... EVER!... they still don't!!

    Its an amazing car..

Its in the Bob McConnel collection north of Springfield Ohio.. If you get a chance to see it.. GO!!!

I`ve heard the Offy engine referred to as Jewel like. I wouldn`t argue with that!

  21. A few more....Foyt in the cammer, FUBAR (Pontiac powered) and Gilmore at a local Outlaw Oldtimers event, Hank Henry sprinter at a recent show, Herk standing on the button, and the '61 Indy front row.

  22. That's a REAL RARE Kurtis-Kraft OffSet Midget Roadster.

Only a handful were built. Primarily were used on asphalt tracks.

A few pages back I posted a picture of Dr. Bowles' red #19 offy..

Dr. Bowles' son Mark has the car now.

And Richcraft mike posted it on the first page..

Well, Here are some pictures from the Bowles family album of ol' number 19 making laps. A lot of good shoes wheeled this car, including Eddie Sachs.

This is one of my favorites.. It was taken on a side street about 5 min from where I live now. The House and yard are still there.

As some of you know, I'm building a replica of the Bowles special. The #3 car ran a ranger aircraft engine and an Offy.

Here are some pictures of it new, old, and crashed:D

even with todays sprint cars. i think thats somthing everyone should be ble to do. even a midget car. johnny murdock (redog) put me in a midget car for a race. i didnt crash so it was a good night. but it was soooo badass. if you get the chance, do it.

No Don't do it!! it's worse that any drug you could ever try, it only took me until I was 40 to kick the habit, it will take all your money, all your time, nothing else will matter, you will learn to live without the little things in life like electricity or heat. Nothing will matter except getting to the next race, jobs, wives, nothing will matter.

ps. I wouldn't trade any of my memories of it for ANYTHING
