Man! Thanks Rootie.. I remember going there. I was young but I remember it. Rusty always wore those overalls. I miss him. You always remember the older guys that are nice to you when your young.

In this classic shot, Johnny Anderson lines up next to #46 which may have been driven by Bob Tweedy. We believe the photo is from 1966. (Johnny Anderson collection).

I hope the Webb and Whitts Canadian Offy ended up in caring hands after he was cleaned out. That is a sweet piece and I like "different"-:)

I remember Rusty from the Fremont (Oh.) swap meet years ago. He always stayed to the end and scarfed-up everything the sellers left behind. He even got complete frames given to him !

The funniest thing he ever told us was his method of draining oil from the relics he dragged in.
He took a well aimed shot with a .22 pistol in the lowest corner of the oil pan !
He said he'd be damned if he would take the trouble to jack up the car and crawl under it, just to drain the oil !

Wow! I hadn't checked in on this thread in quite some time. It's truly shocking to see Rusty's stuff, and it brings back a ton of old memories. He used to stay with us when I was a youngster when he was on trips to get some of his treasures. I got to see a ton of cool stuff come through the shop on its way back to Rusty's place.

In the late '80s, he raffled off a more contemporary sprint car to help fund the museum. The car stayed in my dad's shop for several months. I think dad was on the board of directors for the museum, but when Rusty passed on, his mother did not follow his wishes and contact anyone from the board. Instead, she held the auction...the really cherry stuff ended up in Indy at the museum, and a really large portion ended up in the scrapyard.

Dad didn't hear anything about this until several months after Rusty's passing. He hadn't heard anything from Rusty in a while, and tried to call...only finding out that Rusty had died several months earlier.

What he was trying to do would have been very cool...too bad he passed on before it happened.

This weekend's Amelia Island Concours is honoring
    Parnelli Jones.
He and many of his racing cars will be there.
The display of Parnelli's cars will include my
replica of his championship winning USAC sprint car,
the "Fike Plumbing Spl." It is the only known visual
representation of the Fike car which was a major
    stepping stone in Parnelli's career.

    Jerracer,

You have to have an external photo sharing page set up somewhere like webshots, etc. I use flickr. You scan and upload your photos to your photosharing site, then copy the link for the photo you want to post. At the top of the reply box here there is a line of icons at the top left of the reply box. The next to the last one to the right is the insert image icon. click on that and open it up and paste the link. I have to get rid of the :http/ that is in the box when you open it up and then paste my link in there.
If you never did this stuff before it is probably confusing, but if I figured out how to do it most anyone can-LOL.
If you need help, just ask. I will help or I bet one of these other guys will if I`m not here at the time.

    or you can click reply,
    manage attachments
and just upload them from your pc
if they are to big you will have to resize them in a photo shop type program

Hey Racer5c, Is that Allen Heath in the 9 car? I remember watching him race at Ascot in the early 60's.

In the above photo I posted of the Stapp car, you'll notice a guy in a Hawaiin Type shirt. That is none other than the legendary lensman Jim Chini. Unfortunately, I cropped the pic, so you only see his lower half.

No it's Frank Luptow, Allen Heath drove for my dad, way before my time but he told me he thought that Heath ran the cushion better than anyone he had ever seen, said he was even better after he lost his arm

Here's a couple more . These cars were on display at Joe McPherson's Museum in Tustin at the 07 California Racers Reunion.
I'm not sure what's happened to these cars since Joe passed on and I've heard they closed the museum. I watched the Tamale Wagon and the Bromme "Andy Gump" run many laps at Ascot as a youth.

"Man those 4 cam fords were awesome!"

They were really wild in the USAC sprints. I`ll never forget Gary Bettenhasen in Willie Davis`s 4 cammer in 1971!

On the subject of the 4 cam fords, I remember when Louis Senter had one in his champ dirt car and brought it out to run with the sprints. Don Hawley was driving it and man it screamed. Sounded like they were turning it close to 10 grand. Just another unique Ascot experience.

I wonder if that was the same Dirt Car I saw Hawley run at Nazareth in USAC Dirts cars in 1971?

It was a car#22 Ansen Automotive Spl,and Don got 3rd place.

I`m not sure what engine Don had in that car,but he gave it a hell of a ride.
