I believe Gregg Kishline's point is that it doesn't have to be "money driven." The reason motors are so expensive is because people no longer build them on their own plus all the exotic materials.

Is sprint car racing more enjoyable now than when guys bought 327 long blocks from their Chevy dealer, chaned the cam, put in a magneto, and bolted on a set of Hilborns?

Is it more entertaining that they roll into town for a WOO show in an 18 wheeler with 3 complete cars and parts for two more on board?

My friend may be off in his cost estimates but not in his intent. Leasing those sealed Honda V-8s is a MILLION a year. No family owned business short of the Hyatt Hotel chain could support an Indy car these days.

GE White's new book on the Wilke's Leader Card team details the rise of big money & the decline of the "sportsman" owners.

VW powered midgets in 1965? Caption correction needed. Is it racing the Lockart Badger on DIRT? That is what we need.

I think the guy who built that learned his craft building nerf bars for Australian modifieds. :D

I'll bet it was made out of old drive shafts and not as heavy as it looks. Probably only weighed 4000lbs, not 8000 lbs LOL

Great! I love this stuff. They still looked like classic race cars back then, even with the cages.

True, Some were even beautiful pieces of art, broadsliding in the dirt. Then they went and screwed them up by putting those rock gaurds and aluminum billboard/crutches up on top of the cages so you could'nt see you favorite heros in all their glory behind the wheel....Rich

Went to Grandview last year to watch the USAC sprints. Closest I've seen to match Silver Crown Cars. And it was a real good race. No wings, only cars and drivers.

Is this Johnny Capels' sprinter with the "Jacob's Ladder" setup on all four corners? I can't make out the number but it definitely looks like an unconventional suspension. Looks like maybe parallel bars, and where are the shocks? Cantelevered coil-overs, not torsion bars?
    Anyone?

I was thinking it is Lee Osborne #81 but it is tough to make out the number on the car.

Rabs what is the deal there? Looks like a big 8 with a tiny 1 next to it.

In the original photo I can make out a large #1 on the rt but the left # is washed out.

Same car-at different races. Probably different years the new shot is probably from 1975 or something.

That new one is a really cool shot!

    IIRC Capels car was #21.

Doesn't appear to be, unless there was a earlier version. Roy C. would know for sure.

My guess is some kind of inboard coil spring setup. I can`t see anywhere for parallel bars.

The first one I believe is from the march race, the second one was later in the season maybe the april race, both have Lee osborne in the car, maybe stauffer hab a # 8 backup car and added the little 1 after a crash or maybe the sign painter screwed up relettering the car, don't have a real good memory of what or why the different numbers, maybe someone on the panel might have a better idea ....Rich
