The finish on the Fronty makes it one in a million - would it be possible to see a front view of it, please?

The guy that owned this car Dusty Thacker was a friend of mine, he did body work in his garage at his house on Georgetown Rd. in Speedway, was a great body man and until the day he died in the 90's he didn't use bondo only lead.

I interested in trades or possibly selling outright. I found a lead on a whole running midget that needs restoring, and im think i might just buy it, so i dont need that one anymore. Anyone interested,? PM me

Hi! My son's grandfather is Roger Beck....if any of you have some cool pics of him or any of the cars he built, would you mind posting them? My son has one picture of a land speed car his grandpa helped build, but not of any of him racing or the sprint cars he built. Also, did you know that Roger rebuilt several of the cars in the Museum basement? Just an FYI. Thanks in advance:D

Roger Beck is a craftsmans craftsman, I think I have some pictures of the dirt car he built that Jackie Howerton drove, I have a pair of seats he built that I am going to put in my hot rod eventually.

  15. Joe Saldana won the '70 Knoxville Nationals in the Roger Beck built #2. My car was a Beck that was copied after the original was lost to a crash. It still had the original Beck aluminum body.....beautiful stuff !

Second pic of my uncles car I've seen in this thread,so cool. Anyway, here's my question. Does anybody here know how to get a hold of Bobby Adamson? My uncle Wilbur was trying to find him and
had no luck. It would be so neat to get Bobby to give him a call,I'm
sure it would really make his day. Anybody?

This thread is second only to "drag cars in motion" and I guess that I only feel that way because I have been involved deeply in the straight line scene for around 45 years now. I still dig classic circle track stuff too as I spent summer Friday nights at Rowley Park Speedway in Adelaide in South Australia where I grew up. Saw Tattersall run, also Gary Patterson and even helped Sleepy Tripp out one night.
Later this year there is a chance to combine both loves. Tom "Woody" Mitchell is orchestrating a vintage oval track reunion at the 20th Goodguys Hot Rod Nationals in Indy. He came by my shop today to check on the progress on his 69 Camaro nostalgia funny car and I showed him this thread. We then decided that this would be a good place to try to round up some more participants for what should be a killer gathering of oval track hot rods. If you can't read the contact info on the flyer PM me and I will hook you up.

Bobbie lives in the York PA area, and I received an email from his granddaughter some time ago, but I no longer have her address. Maybe you could try contacting somebody from the York County Racing Club. They may know how to find him.

    Great stuff guys..

During any Recreation/Restoration of a vintage race car, as you all know, you do a ton of research. Iv'e searched books and webpages for pictures of the bowles Ranger I'm building and did fairly well. But this weekend I got my hands on the "Bowles Bible"!! I was given permission to copy the intire Bowles family album!

Some pics I've seen, but most I have not.. Here are the pictures and notes to explain how certain cars came about, along with pictures of other cars.

Some of these might have been posted early in this post..

    Enjoy

Lets first get to know who is who.

This is the red Bowles #3 Offy. The older guy with the glasses is Dr. Mark bowles.. (money guy, and Chief Mechanic), on the far right is Mark Bowles II, (Mechanic and Owner of the car)

This car was a NICE piece! Here it is new, and race ready... It was fire engine red with gold leaf numbers and LOTS of chrome, including the frame. I've been told that Doc Bowles bought it from Pop Dryer and it had a Ranger in it, and came with with an Extra Ranger.. Bowles put the Offy in it.(remeber that for later pics below)

Here we see Dr. Bowles working on the offy in his Cincinnati garage.

these are two midgets Dr. bowles also funded and raced, The Doc didn't own junk!

Doc even fielded an Indy car, but Mark II (in his 80's) told me last Sat that "dad did it once, but he didn't like that it was only once a year, he wanted to race! So he sold it and he started buying midgets and sprinters"

This was Docs first Sprinter, on Boudnoit Ave, 5 min from where I live now.

This is the #22 car today, it is going up for auction next month, I'll let you all know what it brings.

The Bowles raced the red #3 Offy from around 1947 to 1952 When it was crashed HARD! check out the cowl and tank, looks like it got upside down too.

After the crash, Doc pulled the Offy out and bought a Helligas car, The red #19. He then straightened the frame on the #3 car and put the Ranger that came with it originally back in it. He also bought a (kinda junk, according to a couple guys) #4 and put the spare Ranger he had in it! (it became the #41) Now he owned THREE sprint cars for the 1953 season. He hired a young Hot shot named Bud Randall to aim the former #3 car, now #31, and Ranger powered. Here Bud tries it on in the winter for the first time!

Here Mark Bowles II stands between his two Rangers.

Bud made laps in both the #31 and the #41, AND WON THE 1953 CSRA TITLE!! Here Bud (who went to highschool with Jamed Dean in Indiana..) feels out the #41 car.

Now, here is where a lot the Pics that I hadn't seen start.

Here is Bud on the Championship trail in 53' (all these pics are originals dated on the back)

I don't know who these characters are in the bottom pic with Checkard hats, but both are wearing CSRA arm bands. Anyone know who they are?

Bud must have won this day! He has a trophy in both pictures. Mark Bowles II looks happy in the red shirt.

See Bud in the lower picture, in the #4 car. Thats the #41 when they first got it.

He crashed it hard here poking a hole in the fence.

Maybe on the "Injury mend" Bud looks on as Someone else wheels the #31 Ranger below. And another competitors Ranger.

Here are the other cars.. Some very recognizable cars and names!

Check out the cut down Indy car in the pictuer below Tommy's

Here is the Bowles Hiligas #19, that Doc put his Offy in, freshly restored at a vintage event fifteen years ago. It is still in the family.

ANd now for my favorite picture I found! CHECK THIS OUT! Everything about this picture is cool..

Through the fence, all eyes are on it.. at Indy. Possible the most beautiful Indy car ever. You can just feel how bad ass that car was with this pictue.
